HOSPITALITY

Gucha Community comprises people from all works of life. We have widows, we have single women who separated with their husbands, orphaned children whose mothers died out of HIV and AIDS, others who’s both parents died, aged women and men without care givers or any relatives to take care of them and destitute children. Kisii County within which the CBO works, is a densely populated place and so the recourses available are so meager that starvation and jigger invasion is almost the order of the day. Drinking local brew is a highly rooted culture in the Kisii Community. Polygamy is also highly witnessed it being another tradition that was and still is highly valued especially when it came to ascending to power in the community. The more wives one has the more he is considered to have great skills of leadership. More wives and more children were considered great wealth not only to the man and his family but also great wealth to the entire society. This led to people siring children beyond their financial capacity and also marrying many women without the financial ability to meet their daily basic needs hence rendering them to languish in abject poverty. Gucha Community Based Organization has a program referred to as HOSPITALITY. In this program, the CBO intends to identify poor people who fall among the afore-mentioned categories to put them on an immediate intervention program. The program aims at improving the people’s living standards through provision of social and economic amenities.

The CBO will provide shelter for old and aged people through construction of simple but strong houses, provide food for them and clothing; feeding program for orphaned, vulnerable and destitute children, clothing and footwear to avoid and prevent jigger and bedbugs invasion.

The CBO employs the use of Community Social Workers trained by the CBO whose main duty is to go round the regions within the CBO’s area of jurisdiction to identify the deserving cases and the names forwarded to the officer in charge of each region who ten confirms and recommend the names so forwarded to the CBO for processing.

So far the CBO has managed to assist 1050 cases of jigger invasion, 1800 orphaned children, 400 aged people and 2200 widows. With the help of well-wishers, Donors and the Government departments charged with the aspect of hospitality, the CBO looks forward to starting a centre for feeding program to serve all groups. The program has really seen the hopeless and vulnerable have great hope and has greatly put a smile on the face of many. The program aims at ensuring that the categories of the less privileged in society have had a sense of belonging.
